GUIDED TOUR TO THE SALT LAKES

Discover the salt lakes in the Natural Park of the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja in its characteristic enclave: the unique pink lagoon. This protected area has a total area of 3,700 hectares, of which 2,100 are sheets of water (1,400 hectares of Torrevieja lagoon and 700 of La Mata).

Las Salinas de Torrevieja is the first producer of salt in Europe and the only ones that use floating means for the extraction of salt, which allows to guarantee the sheet of water throughout the year.

In this visit with the tourist train you can admire the salt mountains or garberas, which can reach 20m. of height, which is equivalent to a building with 7 floors. You will also know other surprising details such as the many uses of salt, or what is more curious: why does the Torrevieja lagoon have that pink color? This is due to the pigments of certain algae and bacteria that live in very extreme environments, such as the lagoon with its high salinity, and that also serve as food for a crustacean, Artemia Salina, which is tiny but very abundant in this lagoon. The higher the concentration of salt, the greater the number of bacteria, and the more intense the pink color of the lagoon.

Important to remember that it is a protected space with a great ecological value, so it is not allowed to bathe
